Protect battery systems from thermal runaway with advanced thermal barriers
A thin, lightweight barrier for space-constrained packs, the ContraFlame® S- Series gives engineers greater flexibility to tailor protection around individual battery requirements. Available in different thicknesses and configurations, our thermal barrier materials protect against temperatures of over 1200 °C and can accommodate complex geometries and integrate using adhesive backing or plastic over-moulding.

ContraFlame® S- Series is a range of thermal barrier materials to help prevent thermal runaway propagation, with different thicknesses and protection levels to suit specific battery designs. Lightweight, flexible and available with adhesive backing, the materials can be easily integrated into complex battery systems.

Specifications
In the event of a fire or thermal runaway, our ContraFlame® S- Series shield the battery enclosure or substrate by resisting high temperatures, impact and abrasion from debris, and protects against blast and pressure waves. The ContraFlame® S- Series can be made bespoke to help prevent thermal runaway from progressing within the battery modules and pack enclosures of electric vehicles (among other applications), protecting life and critical equipment.

- Capable of being fitted to acute angles, ContraFlame® S- Series materials are ideal for complex geometric shapes
- Lightweight
- Low smoke and toxicity during a fire
- Flexible and available less than 1 mm thick (ContraFlame® S1), these materials offer advanced protection without intruding into vent space
- Its unique properties mean that, unlike intumescents, our ContraFlame® S- Series stay the same thickness throughout a fire event.
