ContraFlame® F4- Series is a lightweight rebound protection foam for high density prismatic and cylindrical battery cells, offering protection during thermal runaway and extreme fire events. In the event of a cell undergoing thermal runaway, the material allows the cell to vent safely by allowing hot gases and particles to break through whilst shielding neighbouring cells from rebounding particles.

Benefits of ContraFlame® F- Series
Control thermal runaway and protect neighbouring cells
The F4- Series helps reduce the risk of thermal runaway propagation by controlling hot gases and rebounding particles within the battery module. Lightweight, low-outgassing foams can be applied directly to cells and accommodate different battery geometries and manufacturing requirements.
Lightweight, convenient protection
ContraFlame® F4- Series has a very low density and can be applied in various thicknesses to keep weight to a minimum. Due to its low viscosity, it is well suited to high volume potting processes.
Control venting particles during thermal runaway
Providing a barrier where a venting stream from a thermal runaway reaction can break through, ContraFlame® F4- Series blocks rebounding particles and protects surrounding cells.
A highly compatible solution
ContraFlame® F4- Series is compatible with standard mixing and dosing equipment, particularly static-dynamic and dynamic mixing. Its low viscosity and ability to self-level allows for easy filling of difficult geometries.
Specifications
When exposed to high temperatures the material rapidly forms a tough char that will resist erosion by high velocity or turbulent gasses, while continuing to provide insulation to protect the substrate. Even when using the most agressive battery cells (cylindrical 46xx, prismatic >150 Ah), ContraFlame® F4- Series provides additional safety.
